Lorraine is one of the UK's best known media executives with wide ranging experience across the broadcasting and production sector. She started her career as a journalist and produced current affairs, science and general documentaries for the BBC, ITV and Channel 4. The first female Controller of BBC One, Lorraine comprehensively rebranded the channel turning it into the most popular network in the UK. She launched a raft of hit shows including Strictly Come Dancing, Doctor Who and Spooks. She then became Chief Executive of TalkbackThames which produced over 600 hours of TV a year, including Britain's Got Talent, The X Factor and The Apprentice. Lorraine went on to launch a new nations and regions indie group, Boom Pictures, and grew it to become the eighth largest production group in the UK in under two years after acquiring the Welsh company Boomerang Plus and Plymouth-based Two Four. The group was subsequently bought by ITV. Lorraine then moved into the charitable sector as CEO of The Royal Foundation the main philanthropic vehicle for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. Lorraine is the Independent Advisor to Channel 4's Growth Fund and a member of Angel Academe a group that backs female-led tech companies.
Ben Anthony is a Grierson and BAFTA winning documentary and drama director with a sensitive, intelligent approach to powerful human stories. 7/7: One Day in London, a 90 minute testimony based film about the 2005 London bombings won BAFTA, Grierson, Broadcast and RTS awards for Best Single Documentary. The Sunday Times called it ‘a masterpiece of overwhelming power’.
Life and Death Row: Execution following victims, inmates and their families in the run up to execution in Texas won a BAFTA and RTS award. The press described the film as ‘extraordinary’, ‘compelling’ and ‘deeply affecting’.
Ben's debut drama, Don’t Take My Baby, won a BAFTA for Best Single Drama of 2016. The film tells the true story of a disabled couple's fight to keep their baby from being taken into care. The Observer called it, ‘a work of sheer heart-rending brilliance’.
Simon Chinn is a double BAFTA and Oscar-winning producer who is responsible for some of the most successful feature documentaries of recent years.
In 2005, after a successful career in television as a freelance producer and executive producer, he conceived and produced his first theatrical feature documentary, Man on Wire. It went on to win over 40 international awards including the BAFTA for Outstanding British Film and the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature. He followed that up with a string of award winning feature documentaries including Project Nim, The Imposter, The Green Prince, Garnet’s Gold, Bolshoi Babylon and Searching for Sugar Man which also won a BAFTA and an Academy Award. In 2015 he teamed up with his old school friend Louis Theroux to produce My Scientology Movie, Louis’ first theatrical doc. It grossed £1.1 million at the box office, making it one of the highest grossing feature docs of all time in the UK.
Simon launched Lightbox in 2014 with his LA based cousin, Emmy-winning producer Jonathan Chinn. Focused on producing high-end, non-fiction series, feature docs and shorts for multiple platforms, Lightbox has completed major projects for Xbox Studios, Netflix, Fusion, Esquire Network, Channel 4, BBC2, FX, and ESPN. Its feature doc on the 1992 LA riots, LA 92 for National Geographic, won a primetime Emmy and has been shortlisted for an Academy Award. In 2018 it launched a major new feature doc on Whitney Houston. Directed by Kevin Macdonald, it is the only ever film about her that has been authorised by her family.
Guy has been Commissioning Editor, (VP) Factual at Channel 5 since September 2013.
He is responsible for commissioning a diverse slate of peak-time programming across the channel in all factual genres. Recent commissions include the RTS Best Single Documentary winner and Grierson nominee Raped: My Story; Edinburgh TV Awards Documentary of the Year winner The Abused; Association of International Broadcasters award winner Rivers of Blood: 50 Years On and feature-length documentaries in the Modern Britain strand including the recent Suicidal: In Their Own Words.
At Channel 5, Guy has also commissioned world exclusive series Michael Palin In North Korea; current affairs programmes Portillo’s Trouble with The Tories and Paxman: Why are our MPs so Crap; the widely acclaimed Critical Condition; BAFTA, RTS and Grierson Award nominees Rich House Poor House and The Accused and long running documentary series such as Paddington 24/7 and Secrets of The National Trust.
Previously Guy was Head of Documentaries for ITN Productions as well as working as a freelance Executive Producer for a range of companies including: Blast! Films; Darlow Smithson; Firecracker and Wall to Wall. Among the industry accolades Guy has received as a producer are: BAFTA Factual Series Award and Grierson Award for The Trust (C4); the Michael Powell Award for Best British Film for Gas Attack and 3 Emmy nominations for the HBO/Channel 4 feature-length documentary, The Battle for Marjah.
Nelesh is at Netflix working in Original Documentary Series. He was previously Pulse Films' Creative Director where he supervised the creation, development and delivery of all new content in the nonfiction division. He created and Exec Produced Pulse's most recent hits including Dead Asleep (Hulu), Hair Power: Me and My Afro (Channel 4) and Inside Missguided (Channel 4). Prior to joining Pulse, Nel was Naked’s Head of Factual Development where he was responsible for a number of key commissions in both the US and the UK such as Manson: The Lost Tapes (Fox and ITV), The Day I Picked My Parents (A&E) and 9/11: The Final Minutes of Flight 93(History Channel). Before that he held a number of senior roles at leading production companies, including On the Corner, Optomen and Voltage TV where he was involved in converting a raft of feature docs, doc series and formats.
Poppy Dixon is Director, Documentaries and Factual for Sky UK, responsible for commissioning premium, original features and multi-part series for Sky’s three recently launched the factual channels Sky Documentaries, Sky Crime and Sky Nature. Previously, she was a producer of documentary and television, including the BAFTA-winning The Imposter, Grierson-nominated Untouchable and BIFA-winning American Animals.
Danny joined Blast! Films in 2022. He came from Channel 4 where he was Head of Factual commissioning, responsible for titles such as Jade: The Reality Star That Changed Britain, 24 Hours in Police Custody, Emergency, Jeremy Kyle: Death on Daytime, Grenfell: The Untold Story, The Dog House and Grayson’s Art Club. Prior to this, Danny was a Documentaries commissioner at the BBC, responsible for award-winning Hospital, Ambulance, Louis Theroux series and Reported Missing. Danny’s background is programme making having previously series produced and directed several series and films.
Marjorie Kaplan was most recently President of Global Content Strategy at Discovery Communications where she spent two decades overseeing television channels for every audience from children and families to women and men and working with talented content creators all over the world.
Kristina Obradovic is a senior production executive with over 25 years’ experience working in factual TV. She started her career as a production co-ordinator/production manager working with BAFTA winning director, Chris Oxley at Laurel Productions. Kristina moved on to become Head of Production and then Managing Director at Windfall Films, where she was involved in projects such as the BAFTA winning series Inside Natures Giants, EMMY-winning series Your Inner Fish and all of Windfall’s Canadian treaty co-pros including the Mega Moves franchise. After 17 years at Windfall, Kristina then became a consultant, including consultant COO for Caravan Media. Kristina is currently involved with Bigger Bang as a consultant MD.
James Quinn is Chief Executive and founder of Big Wheel Studios, comprising Big Wheel Film & Television and Up & Away Film Entertainment. He was previously Commissioning Editor for Factual and Documentaries at Sky, and prior to that was a senior staff member at several leading indies, including Head of Factual at October Films, Head of Special Projects at Oxford Film & Television and Head of Factual Television at Firecracker. He also recently served a term as Visiting Professor of Media Arts at Royal Holloway, University of London, and is author of a number of bestselling books, including Adventures in the Lives of Others, a collection of essays by some of the biggest names in factual filmmaking, and This Much is True, a landmark volume on the art of directing documentaries.
Fatima Salaria joined Naked in September 2020 and following a merger with sister label Boundless, takes charge of Naked Television, whose programming slate stretches the gamut from hit entertainment franchises including The Apprentice and The Rap Game UK; enduring popular features and factual entertainment series Grand Designs and 100% Hotter; to high-end factual and specialist factual programmes including 60 Days on the Streets, The Day I Picked My Parents and the recently announced Planet Sex fronted by Cara Delevingne.
Fatima joined from Channel 4, where, as Head of Specialist Factual, she was responsible for History, Science, Natural History, Arts and Adventure. Her department’s output ranged from popular formats including SAS: Who Dares Wins to award-winning documentaries including 100 Vaginas, The Curry House Kid and Three Identical Strangers. She supervised hit series My Grandparents War and Putin: A Russian Spy Story, greenlit timely specials including Ramadan in Lockdown and Race Against The Virus, and shaped the channel’s response to the killing of George Floyd with the Take Your Knee Off My Neck series of shorts.
Prior to joining Channel 4, Fatima was Commissioning Editor for Religion and Ethics at the BBC and took part in the first Commissioner Development Programme. She commissioned award-winning Muslims Like Us, Abortion on Trial, We Are British Jews, The Pilgrimage and curated the Black and British and the Partition seasons for BBC Two amongst many other series, as well as being the Commissioner for Who Do You Think You Are? across BBC One, Two, and Four.
Rob Stapledon has spent over 20 years looking after owner managed, independent media businesses. In February 2015 he moved to Arbuthnot Latham (an independent private bank that was set up over 185 years ago) to set up the Media Commercial Banking team. Across the management team there is over 55 years of experience in the media sector.
After 35 years in TV production, management and commissioning, Donna now focusses on supporting the careers of others. She is Head of Talent at BBC Content where she heads up the Commissioner Development Programme and BBC Elevate for mid-career disabled talent as well as other diversity interventions. She is also Director of the prestigious ScreenSkills Series Producer Programme.
At the start of COVID-19 she designed and delivered the highly acclaimed ScreenSkills free training to support freelancers throughout lockdown and is part of the three-person team who launched the Coalition for Change for freelancers.
Donna was a Channel 5 commissioner and Head of Entertainment and Features at Channel 5. She was also an Entertainment Commissioner at Sky. Previous to that she was a producer and editor at the BBC in factual programming and, with others, headed up large departments which boasted shows such as Top Gear, Watchdog, Crimewatch, Planet Earth and Louis Theroux. She also ran the BBC’s Live OB Unit.
Donna also ran the College of Production at the BBC Academy where she designed and launched the award-winning Expert Women and Expert Voices campaigns and also devised and produced Fast Train, the largest free training events for freelancers.
Kate Townsend is Netflix's Director, Original Documentaries. She commissions original documentaries out of the UK for the global streaming platform Netflix, which has over 150 million members. In the last two years Kate has worked across titles such as the Emmy nominated Fyre, newly released The Great Hack and sports psychology series Losers. Prior to Netflix, Kate was Commissioning Editor of the BBC's Storyville, where her credits include A Syrian Love Story, Pussy Riot, Notes on Blindness and India’s Daughter. She's twice been nominated for a News & Documentary Emmy, and won the RTS award for Best Current Affairs Documentary for BBC Two’s Power To The People.
Maxine Watson is Executive Producer and Development Consultant for Cardiff Productions and Black Ruby Pictures. She was formerly Commissioning Editor for the BBC and prior to that, Head of Programming for Twenty Twenty Television. And award-winning Producer, she has more than 20 years’ experience spanning Documentary, Current Affairs, Daytime and factual drama. She was Commissioner and Executive Producer for the first and subsequent 10 series of BAFTA-winning Who Do You Think You Are?, A House Through Time, The Great Pottery Throw Down, Rio Ferdinand: Being Mum and Dad, Gareth Malone’s The Choir series, The Met Policing London, Famous Rich and Homeless and many other singles and series as well as fact-based dramas including Mrs Mandela, Shirley Bassey, The Scandalous Lady W and Excluded. She was more recently Executive Producer for Channel Four’s The Talk and BBC Two’s The Boleyns.
Andy Worboys is a Grierson and double BAFTA-winning film editor with over 20 years’ experience in the industry. Starting out as a post-production runner, he quickly moved through the West London machine rooms to begin editing on BBC’s Tomorrow’s World, Horizon and Panorama.
He set up and ran a successful editing facility in Covent Garden from where his edits projects with teams from Passion Pictures (The Serengeti Rules, Hillsborough and Best), Lightbox (Untouchable and Tell Me Who I Am), Raw (The Imposter and The Lost Sons) and Pulse Films (XY Chelsea) several of which were screened at Sundance, SXSW, Tribeca and many more.
Now based in Worcestershire, he has spent the last few years continuing his passion for theatrical documentaries, consulting, and fixing and finishing various editorial projects, as well as guest tutoring at the NFTS.
